Adult Scout Leader of the Year
2016 Honoree of the Queens Federation of Churches
Kelvin Willis
Kelvin started his scouting career as a Cub Scout in Pack 247 at PS 147 Elementary School. When that pack disbanded, he quickly found a new home with Pack 316/333, where he continued his climb up the scouting ladder. He earned the Arrow of Light Award and crossed over into Troop 333. While a member of Troop 333 Kelvin was inducted into the Order of the Arrow (Suanhacky Lodge #49, Nianque Chapter). As a scout he remained active in the Order of the Arrow giving services and participating as a Ritualist. He would later go on to obtain his Eagle Scout Award.
Immediately after obtaining the Rank of Eagle Kelvin joined the Adult Leadership of Troop 333 as an Assistant Scoutmaster with hopes of giving back to the younger scouts to allow them to have the same opportunities that he has had as a youth. He would later move on to become the Scoutmaster of the unit, a position which he still holds today.
Outside of his service to his unit, Kelvin has also been a very active participant of the district and council activities as a whole. He has been an active member of the District Committee and served as a member of the Activities and Membership Committees, the Activities Chairman and the Vice Chairman of the District. He has also held various Advisor Roles on the Chapter and Lodge Level in the Order of the Arrow. He has been the facilitator and lead instructor in the councils First Aid and CPR courses, and is always willing to lend a helping hand when called upon.
Kelvin is a Vigil Honor Member of the Order of the Arrow, a recipient of the Founders District Award of Excellence, Founders District Award of Merit, the Shepherd Emblem from the Queens Federation of Churches and the 2015 Silver Beaver Award.
