Sokratis Galitsis

 

Sokratis Galitsis was born in São Paolo, Brazil, where he lived until the age of 6. The family then moved to Athens, Greece, for a few months and finally emigrated to New York and has been here ever since. Besides English he is fluent in Greek and speaks a little Portuguese and Spanish.

His Scouting career began with Troop 23 in Astoria, which he joined at age 11 – and continued as a member until age of 33, ending as a Committee Chairman. Throughout the years in Troop 23 he held almost every youth and adult leadership position from Patrol Leader to Scoutmaster. At age 33 he moved to Bayside and continued his scouting career by joining Pack 268 as a Den Leader. He is currently the Cubmaster of Pack 268 and Committee Chairman of Troop 268 at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church.

In addition to serving as a Pack and Troop Leader, Sokratis is the District Commissioner for Founders District in the Greater New York Council. He serves on the District’s Camping Committee, Religious Committee and Conservation Committee. He is Vice Chairman of the Eastern Orthodox Committee on Scouting, a national organization promoting the Orthodox religion.

Sokratis Studied Electrical Engineering at City College of NY. He has worked as an engineer for the US Army, a contractor for the US Navy, and is currently a telecommunications engineer in the construction industry.

Sokratis has been married for 25 years to his wife Penny and they have two children; Billy and Jamie. Jamie is married and Sokratis is also a proud grandfather of a 2 year old girl, Alexandra Sara Yatsko.
