Adult Scout Leader of the Year
2008 Honoree of the Queens Federation of Churches

Senator Frank Padavan

Senator Frank Padavan has a distinguished career in government. He has represented the 11th State Senate District in Queens since 1972.

He is the Legislature’s leading critic of State-backed gambling, such as the Lottery’s “Quick Draw,” and he has spearheaded statewide opposition to legalized casino gambling through lawsuits. He has led reform efforts in school governance, increasing school aid, mental health, and crime-fighting.

He is currently Vice President pro-tempore of the Senate and chairs the Senate Majority Task Forces on Immigration, Governmental Reform, Port Security and School Governance (co-chair). He is a member of several other Senate committees, including: Cities, Energy and Telecommunications, Finance, Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities, Rules, Transportation and Veterans Homeland Security and Military Affairs.

As a parent, Senator Padavan has always been very supportive of the high morals of Scouting with both of his children, Scott and Allison. Scott became a Life Scout in the Boy Scout Troop that was sponsored by Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church in Jamaica Estates while Allison was a Girl Scout in a Troop sponsored by Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Auburndale.

Despite his rigorous schedule, the Senator continues to honor and support Boy Scouts who achieve the Eagle Rank along with Girl Scouts who achieve the Gold Award. He attends virtually all of these ceremonies locally and, at their respective awards ceremony, presents the Scout with the New York State Senate Outstanding Achievement Medal.
