Florence B. Cadogan

 

Florence B. Cadogan was born in Brooklyn Jewish Hospital and attended St. Peter Claver Roman Catholic Church where she was baptized, celebrated First Communion, Confirmation and Marriage. After graduating from St. Francis Xavier Academy High School, she attended St. Mary's Hospital School of Nursing, where she received a nursing diploma. She attained a NYS Registered Professional Nurse License. Six months later, while working as a staff nurse, she enrolled at St. John's University where she majored in Nursing and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree. In later years she earned a Master of Professional Studies in Health Care Administration from Long Island University, C.W. Post Center and a Master of Science in Nursing from Adelphi University.

Florence is a retired Faculty member of St. Vincent Catholic Medical Centers School of Nursing where she held the position of First Level coordinator in the two year Associate Degree Nursing program. In March 2002 she received the Woman of the Year award from the Laurelton Club of the National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women's Clubs, Inc.

Florence is an active member of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, where she serves as a Eucharistic Minister. She is the Advancement Chairman for the church sponsored Boy Scout Troop 333 in Cambria Heights. She is a Merit Badge counselor for First Aid, Family Life and Communications. Additionally, Florence is a member of Founders District Committee and the Owls, Queens Council Training Team.

Florence served as Chairman of Pioneer District and later as the first Chairman of Founders District which combined Pioneer and Dan Baird Districts. Her activity in scouting has resulted in her earning the Bronze Pelican and the St. George Religious awards, Scouter of the Year 1990 (Pioneer District), and District Award of Merit in 1994. She has been recognized for completing the National Wood Badge requirements in 1995 when she also received the Silver Beaver Award, the highest award given by a local council to an adult leader.

Florence Cadogan is married to Winston, an engineer retired from AT&T and they are proud parents of two Eagle scouts, Sean and Duane. Sean is an electrical engineer living in Pennsylvania with his wife and two children. Duane, now known as Sharai Erima is a lawyer in private practice living in Brooklyn with his wife and two sons.
