Adult Scout Leader of the Year
2006 Honoree of the Queens Federation of Churches

Jennifer Chung

Jennifer Chung was born and raised in Queens, where she was surrounded by the constant support of her parents Charmaine and Fah Ying Chung. As she entered Kellenberg Memorial High School one of the first speeches given by the administration centered on the theme “Get Involved” and Jennifer took that phrase to heart. She became an active member of her school community as a member of the dance competition, editor of the newspaper and a Big Sister to one of the Junior High classes. Jennifer graduated from St. John’s University with a BA in English and is currently in her second year of studies at Hofstra University School of Law.

While law school keeps her busy, Jennifer has never let that hinder her involvement in her community. Jennifer started in Girl Scouting in 1989 as a Brownie Girl Scout and under the supervision of wonderful leaders she was engulfed into the full Girl Scouting experience from crafts to camping. As she worked her way through the ranks Jennifer earned both the Girl Scout Silver and Gold Awards, the two highest awards a scout can achieve. She was also the first girl to earn the Spirit Alive award for Catholic Girl Scouts. Currently, Jennifer is a leader of a Cadette and Senior Troop. As a leader of over 20 teenagers, she strives to teach them everything she learned as a scout. She has worked hard to instill in her girls the values of Girl Scouting; to become strong women who will eventually become the leaders of our future.

Jennifer is also an active Service Team member. She is the Public Relations Manager and Cadette and Senior Troop Consultant for her Service Unit. She also organizes the annual Service Unit Awards Ceremony which recognizes scouts for earning the Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards. Jennifer is also the Association Secretary at the Queens Association Meetings for the Girl Scout Council of Greater New York.

As an adult Girl Scout, Jennifer has received many awards including the Leadership Development Pin, Skyline Award, Outstanding Leadership Award and Appreciation Pin. In addition to her membership in Girl Scouts, Jennifer is also an active member of St. Clare’s Church in Rosedale. She is a Lector, an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist and is a catechist for the Religious Education Program where she prepares teenagers for the sacrament of Confirmation. Additionally, she is part of the Liturgical Committee and the Consolation Ministry.
