2004 Honoree of the Queens Federation of Churches

        Clarence R. St. John

Clarence R. St. John was born in New York City.
His early childhood was spent in the Bronx before moving back to Harlem
and becoming a Scout in Troop 766 at All Souls Church. He left Scouting
to join the Junior National Guard and attained the rank of Regimental
Commander. In his teen years, he moved to Brooklyn where he graduated
with honors in music from Seward Park High School. Drafted into the U.S.
Army in 1951, he earned the rank of Staff Sargent in less than two years.

In 1958 Clarence moved to Queens and attended the Manhattan School of
Music for two years. He also became Cub Master of the Pack which met in
the Synagogue on Farmers Boulevard. When the synagogue moved, he arranged
to move the Cub Pack to the Episcopal Church of St. Alban the Martyr
much to the astonishment of the District Scouting Commissioners. They
issued the Church a new Charter. Clarence became Vice Director of The
Brotherhood of St. Andrew Chapter at St. Alban the Martyr. After transferring
his church membership to Grace Episcopal Church, Jamaica, in 1987, he
became Director of its Brotherhood Chapter, a position to which he has
recently been elected for a second time. He was made a Life Member of
the Brotherhood in 1997 and has been recognized by the Brotherhood with
several awards including the Legion of Honor Award and the National President's
Award last year. He currently serves as the National Chairman for Scouting
for the Brotherhood of St. Andrew.

He has been a member of the American Legion for the past 20 years and
received their Legion Award for Scouting in 1997. He is also a member
of the National Association of Episcopalians for Scouting.

A one time Vestryman and Warden of Grace Church, he is currently Program
Director for Youth Ministries, Manager of the Cemetery, and Lay Eucharistic
Minister. He received the Bishop's medal for Distinguished Parochial Service
        in 2002.

Clarence currently serves as Community Liaison for New York City Councilman
        Leroy Comrie.

He is married to Inez St. John who is now the Warden of Grace Episcopal
        Church.
