The Community Church of Douglaston begins its centennial celebration with a talk about the architecture of the church and the local community. Kevin Wolfe, esteemed local architect, community leader and the visionary who restored the church’s beloved cottage, will speak on Thursday, January 22 at 7 pm in the Parlor of the church. CCD, a Reformed Church of America church, is located at 39-50 Douglaston Parkway, Douglaston, NY. Refreshments will be served. Additional events are scheduled for the year. The public is welcome. Celebration of 84 Years of Ecumenical Ministry in Queens at Terrace On The Park. The Annual Dinner Celebration of the Queens Federation of Church will feature a reception at 6 p.m. followed by Dinner (at 7 p.m.) during which annual awards for Outstanding Leadership in Queens will be presented. The “NY Concert for Nepal” will be performed by the Queensboro Symphony Orchestra in their season finale on Sunday, May 31st, 7 p.m. at Mary’s Nativity Church in Flushing with proceeds from the free-will offering benefitting the people of Nepal affected by the earthquake. Led by acclaimed maestro Dong-hyun Kim, classics to be performed are Tchaikovsky’s monumental 5th symphony, Mozart’s Horn Concerto #3 (featuring Peter DelGrosso) and the Nepali national anthem arranged by Paul Joseph.
