NEW YORK – "People in all walks of life – doctors, housewives, firemen, nurses, and students – find that Scientology provides them with tools they can use to lead a better life," says Rev. John Carmichael, of the Church of Scientology New York.
"But when a housewife uses the methods of Scientology to organize her household better, or a businessman is more successful because Scientology helps him lower his stress, these stories don't get the same coverage as the successes of movie stars."
Rev. Carmichael illustrates his point with an expanded feature of http://www.scientology.org, the Church of Scientology's hugely popular website. One entire section is devoted to short statements from more than 150 Scientologists – a construction foreman, a race care driver, a mother, a dancer – of all kinds. Each video ends with variations of the tag line, "I'm (name), I'm a (profession, favorite role in life), and I'm a Scientologist."
The feature is called, "Meet a Scientologist," and is one of the reasons http://www.scientology.org/, which logged 12.5-million individual visitors last year, has far exceeded that level of traffic so far in 2010, just as the Church's expansion internationally continues.
"Scientology provides workable answers to the questions people have," says Carmichael, "and as people find they can make their lives better, they tell their friends. The growth of Scientology is people-driven. I think that's why this campaign communicates so well."
