Commemorating the 50th anniversary of The Office of Communication, Inc. – the media-justice arm of the United Church of Christ – will hold its 27th annual Everett C. Parker Ethics in Telecommunications Lecture and Awards Program on Sept. 30 at The Riverside Church in New York City.

This year's event has shifted to the UCC's original national headquarters city of New York after several years at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C.

Online registrations are being accepted for the event where the keynote lecture will be presented by the Rev. Michael Kinnamon, General Secretary of the National Council of Churches in the U.S.A.

Created in 1982 to recognize the Rev. Dr. Everett C. Parker's pioneering work as an advocate for the public's rights in broadcasting, the Parker Lecture is the only lecture in the country to examine telecommunications and the digital age from an ethical perspective.

Honorees will include: Patti Miller and Ben Popken, co-executive editors of The Consumerist, who will receive the Consumer Education Leadership Award for educating consumers via technology; Patti Miller, vice president of the Public Policy Sesame Workshop, who will receive the Everett C. Parker Award, for special contributions in lifting up the principles of the public interest in the telecommunications industry; and Samuel Simon, chairman of Amplify Public Affairs and former president of the Telecommunications Research and Action Center (TRAC), recipient of the Donald H. McGannon Award for his commitment in advancing the role of women and people of color in the media.
