It is no coincidence but a synchronicity that today I attended the Human Rights Summit at the UN to mark 60 years that the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was adopted by the UN with the advocacy of the late Mrs Roosevelt!
And today I received a copy of Dr. Bertil Persson's new book: The Fight Against Sects. It is available online from berperorder2008@yahoo.com for 25 Euros. It is a publication of the Swedish Interreligious Peace Council, Box 45447, S-104 31 Stockholm, Sweden.
The book is a study in the history of ideas in Europe concerning the persecution of various sects like the Jews, Jehovah's Witnesses, the Baha'i Faith, the Theosophical Society, the Liberal Catholic Church, Christian Scientists, Adventists, etc. There are excellent glossaries, documents, mini-biographies attached for clarification.
The Nazi persecution of the Jews was not a sudden phenomenon. It was the culmination of European history from the times of the crusades. The Jews were not persecuted in Muslim Spain or in Ottoman Turkey! The Author, a famous Educator and religious scholar, presents the outcome of 40 years of research and fraternization. He knows of what he writes, firsthand.
I very highly recommend this book, and it is very highly recommended by the famous Israeli scholar, Eliezer Glaubach-Gal, president of the Professors World Peace Academy in Israel. He refers to the book as a "masterpiece" in his preface. Sections of the book first appeared in Dialogue and Alliance in 2006. And other parts are from MSS for The Ways of Spirituality in Sweden.
