Spanish Templars Are Suing Pope Benedict Seeking Restoration
of the Medieval Knights Templar Order

August 4, 2008

Russia Today reports the Templars, who consider themselves to be the inheritors of the knight order destroyed in the 14th century, want the decision to forbid the activity of the Templar Knights Order to be reconsidered.

They also want the fact of confiscation of Order property to be labeled illegal, an El Mundo report says.

Back in the 14th century the order consisted of 15 knights and owned 9,000 real estate units in France, Germany, Spain, Great Britain, Portugal and other countries of Europe.

The present total value of the property is now estimated at 100 billion euros. But the modern Templars are not demanding its return.

The association, registered in Spain as a public oprganisaition, is suing Benedict XVI because he is the heir of Pope Clement V, who put the ban on Templar Knights Order in 1307.

The complaint is now being considered by the Second Instance court in Madrid. The First Instance Court refused to hear the case saying that it had no jurisdiction over matters dating from 700 years ago.
