QUEENS, NY – For over 50 years The Greater New York Council of the Boy Scouts of America has owned and operated the Alpine Scout Camp in Alpine, New Jersey. Last year the camp faithfully served the needs of over 25,000 Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts. It has hosted countless national and international scouting units and events over its lifetime. One of the services that has been lacking over these years is a suitable place for all Scouts to worship and practice their faiths, thereby living up to the 12th' point of the Scout Law: A Scout is Reverent.
Suanhacky Lodge of the Order of the Arrow (an honorary service organization within Scouting) is committed to rectifying this situation through the construction of a chapel. The interfaith chapel will meet the requirements of the many diverse religions represented by the Scouts of New York City and its environs. The building is in place, with just a few finishing touches to complete it. We have plans to put seating for about 100 people on the site, to add electricity and to landscape the area. The chapel will be dedicated to the memory of Rev. Barry Frazzitta, former Associate Lodge Adviser for Suanhacky Lodge and the first chaplain of Cub World. Father Barry also served as chaplain at Camp Kunatah at the Ten Mile River Scout Reservation as well as for the National Jamboree.
The estimated cost for this project is $20,000 and help is sought to make this vision a reality. Donors, giving a minimum of $100.00, will be suitably recognized with a plaque that will be prominently displayed inside the chapel. Your good turn will long be remembered by the Scouts and Scouters who worship there.
Donations may be sent to Suanhacky Lodge Crew 49 BSA, attention Chapel Fund, Post Office Box 140623, Howard Beach, New York 11414.
