LCMS World Relief Seeks Volunteers

September 6, 2005

LCMS World Relief/Human Care is compiling the names of volunteers to assist Hurricane Katrina survivors through opportunities to provide housing and help with future clean-up and recovery efforts.

• Housing: Individuals and congregations who want to offer housing for those displaced by the hurricane are asked to send an e-mail to the ministry at lcms.housing@lcms.org. Include your name, phone number, and the type of housing you can provide (apartment, house, etc.), maximum occupancy, available dates and mailing address. Once needs are assessed, LCMS World Relief/Human Care will match refugees with volunteers. Hurricane survivors seeking housing also may contact the ministry at (800) 248-1930, Ext. 1380 or 1381, or via e-mail at lcms.housing@lcms.org.

• Recovery and clean-up: Individuals and congregations willing to assist with future recovery efforts are urged to contact the ministry at lcms.volunteer@lcms.org. Include your name, address, and phone number, length of time you are available, and, if applicable, any special skills you can provide (pastoral care, medical, counseling, child care, etc.).

LCMS World Relief/Human Care is the arm of The Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod devoted to disaster relief, development, and care of those in need. For more information about the ministry's hurricane relief efforts, visit its Web site at http://worldrelief.lcms.org/.
