The Meaning of Lutheran Theology for a New Millennium

December 17, 2004

MINNEAPOLIS - Fortress Press is happy to announce the release of The Gift of Grace: The Future of Lutheran Theology edited by Niels Henrik Gregersen, Bo Holm, Ted Peters, and Peter Widman. This landmark volume, the first of two, assesses the prospects and promise of Lutheran theology at the opening of a new millennium.

From four continents, the thirty noted and respected contributors not only gauge how such classic themes as grace, the cross, and justification wear today but also look to key issues of ecumenism, social justice, global religious life, and the impact of contemporary science on Christian belief.

The Gift of Grace began out of a global convocation called "The Future of Lutheran Theology: Charisms and Contexts" held at Aarhus University, Denmark, January 16-19, 2003. Editors: Niels Henrik Gregersen is Professor of Systematic Theology at Copenhagen University and has recently published From Complexity to Life (Oxford University Press, 2003). Bo Holm is assistant Professor of Systematic Theology at Aarhus University, and has recently published Luther und die Gabe (Walter de Gruyter, 2004). Ted Peters is Professor of Systematic Theology at Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary and the Graduate Theological Union, Berkeley, California. Among his works are God-The World's Future (2nd ed.; Fortress Press, 2000) and Bridging Science and Religion (co-editor; Fortress Press, 2003). Peter Widmann is Professor of Systematic Theology at Aarhus University, and author of Thetische Theologie (Chr. Kaiser Verlag).
