Protestant Law Group Being Formed in Queens
to Explore Christian Values in the Practice of Law

April 25, 2004

JAMAICA, NY – A recent study by the American Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Division shows that more than 65% of the young lawyers interviewed said that they would consider switching to non-lawyering jobs within the next two years. The reason given was a stated inability to contribute to the social good through the practice of law.

It is felt by certain attorneys in Queens County that there is a need for an organization to explore the role and practical application of Protestant Christian values in the practice of the legal profession, and those who work in the judicial-court system. No such organization presently exists; hence, an organizational meeting has been called to facilitate the creation of the group, tentatively named the Protestant Law Guild of Queens County.

The mission of the Protestant Law Guild of Queens County as envisioned at this time will be to provide a forum for members of the Protestant faith to meet periodically to discuss and promote the ideals of justice, righteousness, fairness, and the rule of law in the workings of the legal profession, the court system and its supporting systems, in accordance with Christian values; to deepen the intellectual culture of the members; and to extend and maintain their social relationships with one another. The organization will be inclusive, not exclusive, with membership open to all persons, lawyers or non-lawyers, regardless of religious affiliation.
