Nineteen Assemblies of God ministries and the
Honorable John Ashcroft will be among those who are honored at the
first Compassion Ministries Dinner at General Council on July 31,
2003, in Washington, D.C.
"The purpose of the evening is to present the
Assemblies of God as a compassionate and caring organization," said
Harold Sallee, administrative assistant to the General Superintendent.
"This is the first time at General Council we will highlight the
various ministries that do the work of compassion. We are excited
about this evening and hope it will become a regular feature at
future councils."
The compassion ministries of the Assemblies of
God will be recognized for their efforts in meeting the physical
and spiritual needs of people in the United States and around the
world. Ministries to be honored at the banquet include Teen Challenge,
Convoy of Hope, Healthcare Ministries, Latin America Childcare,
Highlands Child Placement, and Hillcrest Children's Home, along
with several other A/G ministries.
Ambassador In Mission (AIM) team members will
also be honored guests of the evening. They will be recognized for
the compassion work they will have been doing throughout the week
in the D.C. area.
Ashcroft has been invited as guest speaker of
the evening and will be honored for his commitment to compassion
ministries and his work while he was in the Senate on a bill called
Charitable Choice, which opened the door for faith-based ministries
to compete for federal money to fund their work. Ashcroft's attendance
at this event is yet to be confirmed.
The dinner will be Thursday July 31, 2003, from
5-6:30 p.m. at the Washington Convention Center. Tickets are $39
and can be purchased during the online registration process or by
downloading the online registration form and sending it via mail
and fax. To obtain a registration form or to register online, logon
