How Things Change

by Pedro Bravo-Guzman

Indeed, how things change! We have moved to publish our official newspaper over the internet (although we have not abandoned an intention to return to publishing a printed version). Through this medium, we shall continue to fulfill our mandate to keep our ecclesiastical community informed.

We have lived through many events that have kept our minds and spirits busy. We continue to face the challenge of terror and horror of war abroad and at home.

Our security agencies continue to warn us of possible attacks against our country. When is this all going to end? I don't believe that we can foresee a quick fix end solution on sight.

Indeed being carriers of a message of peace may place us in an awkward position. I must question how far should we go to prevent the continuation of damage to our way of life.

The truth is that there is already an irreversible damage. The terrorist attack of 9/11 is now keeping us on a constant alert. Our way of life has been changed. If on one hand we have experienced the togetherness that was brought as a consequence of the horror of the attack, the horror of war is now knocking at our own door.

Our children can feel the fear in the air. People move around with a clear sense of uneasiness. But everything bad must bring always a lesson of good with it. This is the perfect time to give testimony to our Christian lifestyle.

This is the time when we can speak of the love of God, the message of redemption and salvation. It is a moment when we can feel the security that can only be found in bringing the presence of Jesus to our hearts.

There is no fear when we have Jesus in us. Our sense of respect for others and their religious lifestyle must increase and be a significant proof of the meaning of Christianity.

Is only through the love of God and the presence of the Holy Spirit that we will be able to overcame the obstacles that had been placed in our lives by evil.

We should know better, that it is through prayer and contrition that we can face the forces of the common enemy of humankind.

Let us pray; let us enhance our relationship with God; let Jesus drive our lives.
