The Search For What Saves Us

In their recent book, Proverbs of Ashes, leading Christian feminist theologians Rita Nakashima Brock and Rebecca Ann Parker tell about their own journeys from violence and rootlessness to healing and wholeness. They also ask searching questions about the Christian doctrine that God saves us only because Jesus died an innocent death on the Cross. What does such a theory say about God? Is it Jesus’ violent death which saves us or the way he lived? Has this doctrine encouraged women (and others) to accept violence passively as the will of God? Join us for a provocative, 8-week series in which we will read the book, share from our lives, listen to audiotapes, and participate in ecumenical ritual and worship.
