Ecumenical Celebrations

Throughout the year, the Queens Federation of Churches sponsors a number of programs and events to bring together people in celebration of Ecumenical Ministry in Queens.

On the last Friday evening of January, we gather at Terrace On The Park for a gala evening in Celebration of Ecumenical Ministry in Queens. Individuals in the community are recognized with awards for Outstanding Leadership in Queens. Two adult leaders in Scouting, one Girl Scout and one Boy Scout, are presented with the Scout Leader of the Year Award by the Federation and Church Women United. And an individual is recognized for his or her service in ecumenical work by presentation of the Grant F. Anderson Citation for Meritorious Ministry. This fund raising event includes a Souvenir Journal in which greetings and various advertising messages contribute to the evening honoring significant leadership in the Household of God.

Since 1993, we have presented the Citation for Faithful Service to volunteers in local church ministry who are nominated by their pastors. This Brunch on the last Saturday in October draws hundreds of people, reflecting the rich diversity ministry in the Borough of Queens.

The Federation's annual business meeting is the Fall Assembly, held in November. Delegates from member congregations gather to hear reports and to elect the officers and members of the Board of Directors who will govern the ongoing work of the Queens Federation of Churches.

The Annual Scout Awards Dinner witnesses the presentation of awards to recognize significant leadership in the Boy Scout and Girl Scout ministries in Queens. The Shepherd Emblem, first presented in 1979, recognizes active members of Christian churches who have given at least 10 years leadership in Scouting. The Interfaith Leadership Award, which was inaugurated in 2000 on the eve of the new millennium, recognizes adult scout leaders who are active members of a faith other than Christian. This event is usually held on a Wednesday evening in mid-November.

Workshops, seminars and conferences are convened from time to time in order to communicate information and provide skill development and enhancement for church leaders, both clergy and lay. Notices of forthcoming programs will be posted on this site from time to time.
