Federation Membership

Membership in the Federation commits churches to the spirit, life and work of ecumenical ministry as expressed in these Articles. It is an affirmation of the congregation's ecumenical work and of its desire to share this gift with other churches in the Borough.

Member congregations are expected to support this ministry financially. Annual "Fair Share" Assessments are made on the basis of $3.00 per capita for each resident member of the congregation. Congregations contributing 10% or more about the Fair Share rate are recognized for "Second Mile Participation."

Membership Application Procedure

1. The Federation will send an Application for Membership to any church in Queens upon request.

2. After receipt of the completed Application, the Credentials Committee of the Federation's Board of Directors will arrange with the church for representatives to attend a business meeting of the church to explain the work of the Queens Federation of Churches and to answer any questions which may be asked by members of the congregation. This meeting will also serve to acquaint the Federation with the church's life and work.

3. The church will then be asked to gain approval from its congregation to commit itself to Federation Membership. It is recommended that two-thirds of the congregation approve. However, the Federation will accept the accustomed rules of the congregation for its voting procedures. At the request of the church, the Federation will send its representatives to attend this meeting to answer any questions raised by members of the congregation.

4. At this same meeting the church will be asked to designate its official Delegates to the Federation's Assembly as required by the Constitution:

Each congregation having membership in the Federation shall be entitled to representation in the Assembly by its clergy and three lay Delegates, one of whom shall be under the age of 19. Congregations having a membership of more than 300 shall be entitled to one additional lay Delegate for every 200 members, or major fraction thereof, over 300.
                                                        – QFC Constitution, Article IV, §2

5. The Credentials Committee will report the Application to the Federation's Board of Directors for final review.

6. The Federation's Board of Directors will make its formal recommendation to the Assembly which will vote officially on the Application for Membership and take appropriate action to welcome the church into Federation Membership.
